Our Home Repair program addresses the home repair needs of eligible, low-income Buncombe County homeowners. Our goal is to help people live better and longer in their own homes. Please read the following for a better understanding of the program.

Services vary based on needs, but may include:

• Modifications for accessibility
• Heating/cooling systems repair
• Roof repair
• Floor repair
• Interior and exterior repairs
• Exterior painting/staining

Property Requirements:

  • Must be owner occupied for one year (name on title or deed) and in Buncombe County
  • Building tax value of home must be $300,000 or less
  • Must be current on property taxes
  • Must be current on mortgage (if applicable)
  • Must not be in jeopardy of foreclosure
  • If you own a single/double wide or manufactured home: applicants must own the land.

Homeowner Requirements:

  • Income must be below 70% of the HUD Median (income as noted in panel below)
  • Credit will be checked for all applicants

Ability to Pay

  • Delinquent Debt: No more than $5,000 in total balances at the time of application.
  • Medical Collections less than three years old: No more than $2,500.
  • Bankruptcy: Must wait two years after being discharged.

Debt-to-Income ratio

Total debt cannot exceed 50% of monthly gross income.

In accepting and rejecting applications, Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity must conform to all aspects of the Fair Housing Act and all Fair Housing Laws, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Privacy Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as any local applicable laws as they apply to applications for a mortgage.
